G.3.2 Scheduling of Final Examinations

Scheduling of final examinations focuses on limiting scheduling conflicts for students. Requests for final examinations to be scheduled on specific dates cannot be accommodated.

Final examinations for evening and weekend courses are scheduled by the Registrar. The scheduling of final examinations in the evening or on a weekend cannot be guaranteed.

The Final Examination Schedule will be published approximately one month after the start of the term and will be available in the Student Centre and on the Office of the Registrar website: ucalgary.ca/registrar/exams.

All final examinations must be scheduled by the Registrar, except:

  • Final assessments which are take-home, oral or project presentations.

  • Final assessments in the JD, MD, DVM and graduate programs offered by the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape.

  • Courses held at an off-campus location where the final examinations will be scheduled at that location. In these cases, the department will schedule the final examinations during the official final examination period for that term, as outlined in the Academic Schedule. This excludes non-MD courses at the Foothills campus and courses in the MBA program.

  • Supplemental examinations.

Scheduling Common Final Examinations

Common final examinations may be scheduled when all sections within the same course are required to have the examination schedule at the same time. Common final examinations must be requested at the time the course is scheduled and may only include other sections of the exact same course. Requests for different courses with the same instructor cannot be accommodated as a common final examination.

When possible, common final examinations will be scheduled in the same location. In some instances, the examination may be scheduled in multiple locations to accommodate the number of students.

Where common exams are requested for a course with sections with different instructional modalities (e.g., section 1 is in-person and section 2 is online), the final exam format must adhere to G. Academic Assessments and Examinations.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
