G.3.3 Online Final Examinations

In addition to the Scheduling of Final Examinations regulations, the following regulations apply to timed final examinations for online delivery.

  • Technology requirements needed for the final examination must be indicated in the course outline.

  • Timed final examinations must be designed to be completed within the time scheduled for the final examinations as stated in the final examination schedule provided by the Registrar (e.g. a two-hour final exam is designed to take two hours to complete).

  • Timed final examinations must be set up in student learning system (D2L) or other approved university platforms to allow for an additional 50 per cent time extension to complete the examination (e.g. a two-hour exam would have a three-hour time window to complete).

  • Any additional accommodation requirements through Student Accessibility Services apply to online examinations. See Rights to Accommodation, Section G. Academic Assessments and Examinations for additional details. Any time allocated for issues that arise during an assessment would be in addition to accommodation requirements.

  • Online assessments must be made available for students to complete starting 24 hours ahead of the scheduled final exam time as indicated in the student center.

The Dean of the faculty offering the course must approve a synchronous online final assessment where students start and end at the same time.

In these cases:

  • The Faculty must provide alternative arrangements for students who are not able to complete the assessment during the synchronous scheduled time (e.g. different time zone, caregiving responsibilities, ability to secure an appropriate test-taking environment).

  • The process for requesting an online final assessment at an alternate time must be articulated in the course outline.

  • All final assessments must be submitted by the end time as indicated in the Student and Faculty centre.

The University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta (districts 5 and 6).

The University of Calgary is situated on land Northwest of where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, a site traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina. On this land and in this place we strive to learn together, walk together, and grow together “in a good way.”
